Network
Train is by far the best option to travel across Slovakia. The country's rail network is extensive, the trains are in general reliable and clean. The InterCity services are the best choice if you like to travel comfortable. IC trains link Bratislava, Žilina, The High Tatras and Košice.
Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, is an intersection of all types of transportation: train, ship, road and air. The completion of the Rhine-Mohan-Dunabe Channel and the Gabcikovo Dam, downstream from Bratislava, made Slovakia the centre on the water route between the North and the Black Seas.
The easiest way to get to Slovakia by train from west is via Vienna, the capital of Austria. Trains also travel to Slovakia from the Eurail countries Poland and Hungary.
Special Trains
There are some special trains in Slovakia that require a reservation or supplement. You can make reservations before your trip at the main train stations in your country or during your trip at most international train stations.
